CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care

This qualification covers workers in a range of early Child Care settings who work within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard. They support the implementation of an approved learning framework, and support children’s wellbeing, learning and development. Depending on the setting, educators may work under direct supervision or autonomously. CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government Funding, for students who meet the criteria.

The Early Childhood Education and Care course takes approximately 6 to 8 months which include class time plus 120 hours of work placement. JTI offers flexible Children Services training which suits individuals and meets industry requirements. The flexible nature of our delivery of this course [online, blended, face-to-face] caters to students in need of flexible study/work hours, working parents, students studying other courses, those juggling between employment and studies and all who are time constrained and wish to either further their education or change career paths.

Completion of Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, requires the satisfactory completion of 18 Units of Study: made up of 15 compulsory and 3 elective units.

Work Placement Program

Work placement is not optional; this Child Care course includes a compulsory number of hours of practical placement.

We understand the Children Services industry and can assist you in finding Work Placement. The JTI Work placement Coordinator, JTI Trainers and the student will work collaboratively in securing a work placement.

  • Once you are marked satisfactory in the required units, you may apply for work placement by completing an online or manual work placement form at any of our campuses. You are able to indicate your availability and preferred location.
  • We endeavour to place you in a Child Care facility of your choice, however we cannot guarantee this as availability in the Child Care facility is also a factor.
  • Once you submit your form, all parties will work towards securing a place for you.
  • Remember, Children’s Services facilities prefer students who are both flexible and reliable.
  • On average, it takes approximately 3 weeks to secure work placement in a Child Care facility

^To attain your certificate you must complete both theory assessments and Work Placement.

Requirements for Work Placement

Students not working in the Children Services industry must complete and be assessed as competent in the following units before commencing placement:

  3. HLTWHS001 Participate in work health and safety
  4. CHCECE002 Ensure the health and safety of children
  5. CHCECE003 Provide care for children

  8. HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting

Students MUST also have the following before they can apply for work placement, if they are not already working in the industry:

  • Obtain/hold a current Police Check
  • Obtain/hold a current Work with Children Check (VIC)
  • Blue Card (Queensland)
  • Obtain /hold Asthma Management Certificate
  • Obtain/hold Anaphylaxis Certificate

Recognition of Prior Learning and Credit Transfer (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning is the process that recognises a student’s current skills and experience, regardless of where and when the learning occurred. PRE-REQUISITES
There are no pre-requisites to join this course.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The requirements for this Child Care course are:

  1. An online application or written enrolment form.
  2. Successful completion of language, literacy and numeracy assessment
  3. A pre-enrolment interview with a JTI career counsellor
  4. Identification documents, one of which is a photo of the student such as a passport and/or a driver license.
  5. A satisfactory national police clearance certificate and Working with children Check (VIC only students) will be required for the work placement.
  6. Possess appropriate literacy and numeracy skills for both the demands of training and the work place.

Students that are government funded require more identification documents that meet the criteria of the respective state government funding bodies.

Students with a criminal record on their police checks/working with children check are informed of the possibility of not getting a work placement facility to complete the placement hours and thus inability to complete the course.

It would be preferred if you are under 25 that you have completed year 10. If you are over 25, you should have relevant work/life experience.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy Assessment:

Prior to course commencement, students will be required to undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment. This assessment is used to determine the student’s level of language, literacy and numeracy as required to complete the course and whether the student requires additional support. Students enrolling in face-to-face study will complete the LLN assessment on orientation day. Students wishing to complete their studies online will have a telephone interview with a JTI staff member. Students who are assessed as not having the required level of language, literacy and numeracy skills will be referred to external support networks to work with them on skill development in the required area/s. Students can re-apply for enrolment once they have developed skills in that area.

Assessment Submission

Assessments can be submitted via face to face classes or the online learning environment. Students can submit assignments from the comfort of their home and receive assistance from qualified trainers, assessors and IT staff. Support is provided online through email, chat lines, live classes and via the telephone.

Students are to confirm with their trainer the mode to use in submitting assessments.

Our face-to-face Early Childhood Education and Care course is delivered at several sites which are located in Melbourne (Dandenong, and Sunshine) and Adelaide (CBD). Classes are held at a variety of times and locations to be convenient and flexible for today’s busy schedules. Online support classes are held regularly and all students are welcome to access them.

Most Children Services students at JTI use the blended mode of study. They may come to class one or two days a week or attend online classes once a week and then spend the rest of their recommended learning time online watching recorded classes, going through power points, reading resources and communicating with their trainer online. This option enables students who want to complete their course quicker to do so and at the same time offering support to all students.

Children Services Live online classes
We have online live classes on a regular basis. In these classes students are able to interact with a trainer and one another by asking questions and sharing experiences. We have revolutionised the process of learning by availing Children’s Services resources 24/7, everywhere, anywhere, all the time. Even if you are interstate or overseas, you can continue to study and submit your assignments. Additionally, we support Child care learning through several mediums, including email, chat lines, live classes, telephone or one on one appointment with your trainer.
