Course Objectives:
To provide the participant with the required knowledge to assist clients with Self Medication:
- Role and responsibilities of PCA
- Storage and handling of medications within the legal framework and current guidelines
- Medication Documentation and Recording requirements.
- Learn about commonly used medications
- Medical Terminology
- Polypharmacy
- Adverse reactions and side effects.
- Learn about Body System

Pre-Requisites
- A written/online application form
- A language literacy and numeracy assessment
- To be eligible to do the unit Assist client with medication(CHCCS305B), you will need to complete the unit Recognise Healthy Body System (HTLAP301B) in prior
- Completed ‘Request for Support from Work Place’ form

Medication for PCA’s Course only if student has previously completed pre-requisite HLTAP301B prior to enrolment $300
(Student must already have completed HLTAP301B)

Learning & Delivery Mode
Students have to do readings and assignments 7-14 days before the actual day of the course. There is a one day for practical in our offices, and comprises of classroom based learning and demonstration which usually done on Friday or Saturday. On Successful completion of the course, students will receive a Certificate of attainment:
- Assist Clients with Medication (CHCCS305B)
- Recognise healthy body systems in a health care context (HLTAP301B)
(Please note HLTAP301B will only be included on the certificate if completed at the same time as CHCCS305B i.e. student has paid $350 to complete both units)
Assessments
Assessments you will need to do in order to be competent are:
- Short questions
- Case studies
- Practical observation
- Simulation
- Portfolio

Important points to remember
- Students who are not already employed are not eligible to complete this short course with Job Training Institute
- Classroom training is a compulsory component of this course
- Work based observation is a compulsory component of this course (this will be conducted on more than one occasion or at the trainers discretion)
- For successful completion of this short course, Job Training Institute must have the following completed documents : Units (workbooks) CHCCS305B and HLTAP301B, Request for Support from Workplace letter and Work Place Observation
