Overview
This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of community settings and clients’ homes, who provide training and support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centered approach, work without direct supervision and may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.
This qualification prepares workers to provide support in community settings and in clients’ homes to people with disability. The course focuses on a person-centred approach designed to increase independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Graduates work with limited supervision and may also supervise or coordinate small teams of support workers.
To enrol in this course, applicants should submit:
- Completed and signed 'International Student Application Form'
- Certified transcripts of all academic achievements, including secondary school education
- Certified evidence of date of birth/Passport
- Certified evidence of English language proficiency
- Submit evidence that meets the Genuine Temporary Entrant criteria (Only for Offshore Applications)
- Minimum Age Requirement: 18 years of age
- Provide evidence of Health and Insurance Requirements
- Provide evidence of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) / Credit Transfer (CT)

Assessment Methods: Written Assessments, Case Studies/Scenarios, Simulations/Role Play, Reflective Practice/Self-reflection, Research Activities/Projects/Plans, Third Party Observation, Work Placement Tasks.
At Job Training Institute (JTI), our CRICOS-registered courses are delivered through 20 hours of structured, face-to-face instruction per week at our City campus. Course delivery is supported by interactive classroom activities, practical sessions, and limited online components, ensuring that teaching methods meet the learning outcomes and competency standards of each qualification.
This delivery model complies with:
- Standards for RTOs 2015 (Clauses 1.2 and 1.3), which require training and assessment to be delivered effectively and by qualified trainers
- ESOS Act 2000 and National Code 2018 (Standard 7), ensuring CRICOS courses are delivered in accordance with approved course hours and teaching modes
- CRICOS registration requirements, which mandate clear documentation of study hours, contact time, and teaching methods for international students
Students’ learning is further supported with resources, practical exercises, and guidance to facilitate competency achievement in line with ASQA and CRICOS compliance obligations.
This qualification includes a mandatory minimum of 120 hours of vocational placement in an approved disability support or community-based facility. The placement allows students to apply their skills in real workplace settings and develop competency through person-centered practice.
Pre-Placement Requirements:
- Attend a Work Placement Preparation Workshop and complete all required tasks
Additional Placement Requirements:
- HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certification (as per provider requirements)
- National Police Check issued within the last 12 months
- COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate (minimum two doses)
- Annual Influenza Vaccination (if applicable)
- NDIS Screencheck (Where Relevant)
These requirements ensure student safety, compliance with legislative obligations, and preparedness for vocational practice.

JTI does not guarantee the following:
- That a learner will successfully complete a training product on our scope of registration. Learners need to put effort in their study and completion of assignments and JTI will provide the trainers and required resources to enable the learner to successfully complete their study.
- A training product can be completed in a manner which does not meet the requirements of clause 1.1 and 1.2 of VET standards 2015 e.g in a shorter period of time than the AQF specifications.
- A learner will obtain a particular employment outcome where this is outside the control of JTI. JTI is a training organization and has no control of employment outcomes.
- The course is delivered in line with ASQA Standards for RTOs 2015, the ESOS Act 2000, and the National Code 2018 to ensure international students receive high-quality education and support.
- Students are informed of their rights, responsibilities, and support services in accordance with CRICOS obligations.
